The ladies branch of Portsalon Golf Club will hold their annual AGM next Saturday, January 24, in the clubhouse at 2pm.

Prior to handing over the reins to the 2025 incoming Lady Captain Roisin McCormack, Noreen McGonigley will present the winners of the 2024 Club Matchplay, Golfer of the Year and the Birdy book with their prizes.

“Noreen has had an outstanding and memorable year, from the ladies winter links, to her ever presence at all our matches both at home and away throughout the summer,” a spokesperson for the club said.

“I don’t think she missed the first tee at the Máire O’Donnell home and away matches, the Intermediate, the mixed foursomes and the mixed fourball teams, with great words of encouragement not only for her own teams, but also the away teams, maintaining the friendly camaraderie between the ladies clubs in golf.”

She hosted a memorable outing for the ladies in Dunfanaghy golf club in beautiful sunshine, which is always a bonus!

“Her Lady Captain’s Day and night proved to be a big hit, especially when our long standing member Mae Blaney surprised us to great applause, that it was her very first Lady Captains Prize to win.”

The National Breast Cancer Research was presented with €1,000 following a very successful Play in Pink fundraiser organised in the Autumn including raffle ticket sales.

Noreen will never take the glory for anything, but her commitment to the Ladies in Golf programme over the summer of ’24 was outstanding. Encouraging both new ladies to take up the sport and those who may have let it drift for a number of years to come back, it was a roaring success. The weekly scrambles with well over 20 ladies taking part getting lessons and tips proved very popular among the participants.

Her final competition to play in as Lady Captain was held on Sunday 19 th and it was only fitting that she won it! So, many congratulations Lady Captain Noreen on a great year from everyone in the ladies branch!

Thanks also to the outgoing committee who behind the scenes keep the ladies branch well informed of what is happening in the club. The dedication of committee members who as always are volunteers giving up free time to attend meetings, in particular in cold dark winter nights, is always appreciated even if we don’t say it often enough.

Finally, best wishes to our incoming Lady Captain Roisin McCormack and the new incoming committee for a most enjoyable golf year ahead in 2025.
