Ms Hannon died at the ICU in Letterkenny University Hospital following a short illness.  She was 23 years-of-age.

As part of her Professional Masters of Education (PME) at University of Galway, she had been working at Loreto Letterkenny

“It is with deep shock and broken hearts that we have learned of the death of our beloved colleague, Miss Cara Hannon,” the school posted on its social media this evening.

A past pupil of Loreto Letterkenny, she completed her Leaving Cert there in 2019.

“Cara was more recently a PME student, doing her teaching practice here with us, up until  last Friday. She was due to complete her studies in May.

“Cara radiated warmth and joy and had a great relationship with her students and colleagues. She will be missed very much by all of us.

“On behalf of management, staff and students we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Cara’s family and friends. May Miss Hannon rest in eternal peace.”

Ms Hannon also worked at the nearby St Eunan’s College last year as a PME history teacher.

“Today, our thoughts and prayers are with her parents, PJ and Nellie, sister Emma and brother Patrick,” the college said in a statement this evening.
