Last weekend saw the Indoor season really kick off for Rosses AC with the Ulster Juvenile Indoor Track and Field Championships in Athlone.

It was another great weekend for the club with a large number making the journey to TUS Athlone. Over the two days, the club had 15 athletes qualify for the All Irelands in four weeks time with over 25 medals as well as a number of 4th place finishes which also qualify. There was a great spread of medals won in many events with the Long Jumpers and High Jumpers having a really good day. There were a number of strong performances that just missed out on medals and many personal bests. Big thanks to all the parents, coaches and officials who travelled and especially those who cover both days. All the hard work over the past few months has paid off and the 2 days were rounded off with a super performance by the u13 girls relay team which raised the roof with the noise and excitement that relays bring. Well done to all.

Medal winners and All Ireland qualifications for Enya Logue, Caitlin O Donnell and Roslie Breslin.

On Saturday last Bundoran 10 mile took place and there was a big win today for Maria Ni Mhaolagain who ran a super time of 1:00:31 – a massive congratulations from all at the club. Ladies Captain Bernie Boyle also made the trip and had a great performance to finish a brilliant 7th in 1:05:11. Emily Bonner put in a strong run to finish in a great time of 1:18:33. The 3 Rosses ladies finished a fantastic 2nd in the team event of the 24 teams taking part.

In the men’s race there was another fine performance from Declan Gallagher running 1:00:18 with Denis Boner continuing his strong consistent showings today finishing in a super time of 1:11:17.

On Friday evening the Bundoran 5k took place and club captain Charlie Postie again finished strongly in this race with a great time of 16:16 to take second. The flying Mark Ward finished 4th in a strong time of 17:10 and a fine early season effort from Patrick Trimble to finish in a solid time of 18:20.

Well done to our club coaches who recently attended the Endurance Running & Fit4Life Coaching Course at Pobalscoil na Rosann. This course was subsidised by Donegal Sports Partnership and provided certification from Athletics Ireland & Coaching Ireland. We’re delighted to support coaches of all levels in enhancing their skills across all sports.

Last week also saw Fodhla Nic Phaidhin win the Long Jump at the last Track and Field Live event for this year at National Indoor Arena Dublin. Fodhla produced a great jump of 5.23m to secure the gold and further her season’s best. As the indoor season concludes, she will now focus her training on the outdoors.
