Two brothers remain in Garda custody this morning after Tuesday’s huge €2.2million drugs seizure near Ballybofey.

In a major operation, Gardaí and Revenue officers swooped on a commercial premises in a rural area near the Twin Towns where they discovered approximately 112 kgs of herbal cannabis (main pic) with an estimated value of €2,240,000.

This seizure is one of the largest ever made in Donegal.

The men, both in their 30s and from the area, are still being detained at a Donegal garda station.

They are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, and can be detained for up to seven days before being charged or released.

The premises involved in the raid is located around 4km from Ballybofey, close to the border with County Tyrone.

This seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit.

“Investigations are ongoing,” a spokesperson said.

“This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations involving organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on phone number 1800 295 295.”
