Donegal woman charged with stealing €36,000 from brother’s bank account

A woman charged with stealing more than €36,000 from the bank account of a family member has entered a signed guilty plea.

Amy Harpur was sent forward to Letterkenny Circuit Court on the back of tendering a signed plea.

The 26-year-old appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

Her solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, told the court that the signed plea would be available to the court. Harpur was present in court and signed the plea before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham.

She is charged that she did steal property to wit €36,027 the property of Andrew Harpur at Ulster Bank, Main Street in Ballybofey.

The alleged thefts took place between June 7, 2021 and July 10, 2022.

The charge is Contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act of 2001.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented to the matter being sent forward on a signed plea to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Cunningham made an order returning Harpur to the Circuit Court. The alibi warning was administered to Harpur while Judge Cunningham assigned one legal counsel in the case.

Bail was granted on the same terms and conditions, however the court was told that Harper is now residing at an address at Shepherds Court in Derry. Previously, Harpur’s address was given as Pump Street, Carrigans.
