RTE’s Nationwide is saddling up and heading to the Wild (North) West for a feature on some real-life cowboys, which will air this evening!
The Wild West has long captured the Irish imagination, thanks in no small part to the Hollywood films of the 1950s and 60s. Today, all these years on, that interest lives on with the Donegal Western Trail Riders Association.
This dedicated group of riders has been together for over 25 years, and their passion for the cowboy way of life has even taken them to many states across America.
They’ve lovingly built an Old Westerly Wagon over the past year and this too will feature in today’s segment on Nationwide, airing on RTE One at 7pm.

Stetsons, Saddles & the Spirit of the Wild West in County Donegal
Local reporter Mary Harte spent a day filming around a private estate in Glenree, Carrigart where the Cowboys have a camp and also around the Olde Glen Bar in Glen Village.
The group consists of Pat Price, Letterkenny, local business man Tony McCaul from Ramelton, John Duffy and his daughter Shannon from Ramelton, John O Donnell and his sons George and Johnathon from Portsalon.
The Wild West has long captured the Irish imagination & that love for cowboy life is still going strong.
