Judge Sandra Murphy, who presided in the District Courts in south Donegal, has been appointed to a new bench.
Judge Murphy has been assigned to District 3, which covers County Mayo.
The assignment is said to take effect immediately, but Judge Murphy is expected to return to deal with matters which have already been before her.
Judge Murphy had been working in District 2, which covers south Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim, since her appointment in December 2021.
A native of Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, Judge Murphy replaced Judge Kevin Kilrane.
Prior to becoming a district court judge in October 2020, she worked as a solicitor at Gilmartin & Murphy Solicitors in Kiltimagh. Judge Murphy had been serving as a ‘mobile judge’ prior to her appointment to District 2.
A successor to Judge Murphy in District 2 has yet to be announced.
Last week, the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, told the Law Society’s annual dinner that the appointment of 20 more judges across the country was in train.
