Donegal’s Ladies footballers will have one last chance to avoid relegation from the All-Ireland Senior Championship, after being defeated by Armagh this afternoon.
In a rematch of an Ulster Final which was dominated by the Orchard County, this relegation playoff semi-final played out much the same.
Armagh stormed out to a commanding lead in a first half where Donegal struggled to get a single score on the board.
By the time Jodie McFadden finally knocked over Donegal’s first score of the day in the 29th minute, Armagh had already notched 10 points – a quick response and another score then saw them enter the half-time break with a 0-11 to 0-01 lead.
Donegal were short on answers in the second half, the game fizzling out despite the best efforts of James Daly’s side – with the final score of 0-15 to 0-05 securing Armagh’s Senior Championship status for next year.
Donegal will have to regroup quickly as next weekend they will face Leitrim in the relegation playoff final, with the loser dropping to the Intermediate Championship next year.
