SUPPORT: DONEGAL Action for Cancer Care is inviting women to a free health information evening in Buncrana next week. The event will take place in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel tomorrow, Thursday, February 17, at 8pm. Information on BreastCheck and CervicalCheck will be available while a GP and dietitian will give short presentations.
MUSIC: BUNCRANA fiddle player Liz Doherty has been instrumental in bringing a top trad music conference to the University of Ulster, Magee Campus in Derry. The conference will be based at the School of Creative Arts with registration taking place this Friday, February 18 at 4pm. The keynote lecture will be held in the Great Hall, Magee, at 6.30pm on Saturday, February 19. As part of the weekend’s activities, two traditional music sessions will be held at Tracy’s Bar, William Street (Friday, February 18 at 10.30pm) and at The Tower Hotel, Butcher Street (Saturday, February 19, at 10.30pm). FUNDS BOOST: Donegal County Council is to receive a funding boost of €3million for Housing Adaptation Grant Schemes for Older People and People with a Disability. There has been a high level of activity under these grant schemes since they were introduced over three years ago with over 13,900 grants paid to applicants in 2010 nationally. Grants of up to €30,000 are available for improvement works and extensions to facilitate a person with a disability. Eligible works include provision of level access showers, installation of stair lifts, grab rails and access ramps.
