A pupil from St. Mary’s National School, Castlefin, took part in the very first series of Junior Mastermind on TV3 is looking forward to the final.
Jack Meenan (11) from Liscooley, successfully beat off stiff competition from around the country, as he won Sunday’s qualifying round to earn a place in the Junior Mastermind final, which will be filmed next month.
The show is presented by former Minister for Justice Nora Owen, and the young contestants answer questions sitting in the famous black chair – just like the grown-up series.
In the first round, each contender has two minutes to answer questions about a specialist subject. Jack’s chosen subject was ‘Superbowls 1998-2012.’ He established an unassailable lead in round one, which he comfortably carried through the second round of general knowledge questions.
Jack is no stranger to quiz successes, having represented St. Mary’s NS in Cumann na mBunscol and Garda quizzes last year. Jack plays Gaelic Football for Robert Emmet’s and plays soccer, basketball and tennis.
He plays Mastermind on TV at home with his parents. He is inspired by Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and his mum, who he says is the smartest ‘girl I know’.
He also loves watching American Football and playing video games. No doubt quiz questions will feature heavily in Jack’s homework over the coming weeks, as he sets about bringing home the Junior Mastermind trophy to Castlefinn.
