MAN FELL OFF WAGON AFTER WATCHING FINN HARPS PLAY LONGFORD

A football fan fell of the wagon and was caught drink-driving after watching Finn Harps play Longford Town.New court

Damien Dervin, a Longford fan, had driven from Longford to Ballybofey to watch his team play.

He was spotted by Gardai on March 24th last swerving and almost hitting a car in his Caddy van.

When Gardai stopped Dervin he had a strong smell of alcohol and there was a bottle of beer in the cupholder.

Solicitor Kevin McElhinney told Letterkenny Dsitrict Court today his client usually didn’t drink and drive but simply fell off the wagon after driving from Longford.

Mr Dervin, who is in his 40s and from Cahanagh, Longford, has two kids and has battled alcohol problems.

Judge Denis McLaughlin fined him €300 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
