Motorists in one Donegal seaside village aren’t sure if it’s safe to speed up or slow down after a road sign blunder!
Two speed signs have been erected on the road leading into Burtonport
Road users would normally be happy to obey speeds – unless they are for different speeds that is!
The sign on the left hand sign of the road advises motorists that they must not drive above 50 kph.
However the sign on the right hand side of the road (the American drivers side!) allows motorists to reach speeds of up to 60 kph.
Locals have been left amused but a little concerned by the sign-post cock-up.
One said “It is funny but what would happened if you were stopped doing 55 kph at that spot by Gardai?
“I think it could provide someone with a fairly strong excuse before the courts.”
A spokesman for the Department of Tourism said the erection of signs was a matter for the local authority.
A Donegal County Council spokesman has said they will look into the matter.
