The North West 10K road race and walk has raised a staggering €656,000 for 29 deserving Donegal charities, it was revealed last night.

The amazing figure was disclosed as details of this year’s event in Letterkenny were announced.

Proceeds from the race, which takes place on Sunday May 4th, will go to two charities – the Conwal Parish Church Restoration Fund and the Letterkenny Branch of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland.

Once again both Donegal Daily and Brian McCormick Sports are the main sponsors of the event.

It is hoped that more than 3,000 walkers and runners will again get under starter’s orders for this year’s event which gets underway at 2pm.

Editor of Donegal Daily, Stephen Maguire, said the website was delighted to once again get behind the event.

“The North West 10K gets bigger and better each year. It is a real community event which puts everything back into the community.

“We are proud to get behind it and to support the two  man charities and many other charities which will also benefit from the event,” he said.

Entry fee for runners will be €15 while walkers will be €10.

Pre-entry will be available in the days before the event to avoid the queues.

The first 2,500 will once again be guaranteed the cool NW 10K t-shirts which many are still wearing during their training regimes since last year’s event.

We will bring you regular updates leading up to the event on Donegal Daily.
