GOLF NEWS: CONWAY WINS FRIDAY OPEN AT MURVAGH

County Colours Mixed Scramble & Presentation of Prizes

The County Colours mixed scramble took place on Saturday the 25th October. Despite a rather blustery day there was an excellent turnout of over 70 players sporting their various County’s Colours. Play kicked off for the teams of three players with a shotgun start at 1pm and the golf was followed by an excellent meal and music in the clubhouse. The winning team on the day representing Galway was Treacy Clarke, Padraig Farragher, and Brian Nealon. In close 2nd came Máirín McCartney, John (M) Meehan, & Martin Quinn with Moragh Canney, Barry Kennedy & Damien Mulhern in 3rd.

 

Following the meal and music, Prizes for competitions played in recent months were presented together with the Major Match Play competitions of the year and the Golfer of the Year awards.

 

Presentation to Charity – Cancer Care West.

Each year a number of charity events are run in the club with the proceeds going to the Captains’ Charity.

This year the nominated Charity was Cancer Care West and on Saturday evening Captain Frank Cook and Lady Captain Mary Farragher made a presentation of a cheque to the value €1663 to local representative for Cancer Care West ,Grainne McGettigan.

 

Men’s Competitions

Friday 24th of October.

Jason Conway continued his winning ways in the Friday open with 39pts. George Espey has also been featuring in recent weeks and he picked up 2nd place with 38pts with Matt Gallagher taking 3rd on 36pts. The Gross prize went to Letterkenny’s Pauric Dunleavy.

Sunday 26th /Monday 27th Oct

There was a sweep on both Sunday 26th and Monday 27th with Conal Callaghan taking the spoils on Sunday in very tough conditions with 28pts and Jason Conway on Monday with 36pts.
