‘BLACK FRIDAY’ ACROSS DONEGAL SEES CHRISTMAS TRADING OFF TO A SOLID START

Donegal businesses are using a little bit of America to kick-start their Christmas campaigns.

Black Friday has come to many parts of Donegal this weekend.

Black Friday has come to many parts of Donegal this weekend.

Today is dubbed Black Friday in the US when shops offer a one or two day sale to start off the festive season shopping spree.

And Donegal shops and stores are following their lead by offering major discounts to shoppers this weekend.

Many shops including The Cope in Dungloe are now saying ‘thank you’ to their loyal customers as the countdown to Christmas gets well and truly underway.

And the good news for the local economy is that all the signs are that we are in for a bumper festive season.

The festive lights are turned on in Letterkenny this evening while it is Donegal Town’s turn tomorrow night.

The strength of sterling against the euro has meant that most Donegal shoppers are staying at home instead of crossing the border to spend their cash.

And stores such as McElhinneys in Ballybofey and Evolve in Letterkenny have noticed an even greater number of visitors from the North coming to Donegal to shop.

CEO of Letterkenny Chamber Toni Forrestor said the vast majority of stores in Letterkenny are offering good rates on sterling while local shoppers are spending locally.

“All the signs are good that we are going to have a very good Christmas in Letterkenny and hopefully across the county,” she said recently.
