Second man charged in connection with massive Letterkenny blaze

A second man has appeared in court charged in connection with a fire which caused an estimated half a million euro of damage in Letterkenny.

Owen McFadden, aged 40, from Falcarragh, appeared at a special sitting of Sligo District Court this morning.

He is accused of one charge of burglary and nine charges of criminal damage.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

A second man, Paul McGinley, aged 30, of Gortahork, appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Friday morning.

Nine cars were destroyed and two businesses suffered severe smoke damage following a blaze in an underground car park at Rosemount Lane in the early hours of Thursday morning last.

Residents in an upstairs apartment block had to flee thick black smoke which gushed through their flats.

Friday’s court was told that up to HALF A MILLION euro in damage was caused in the blaze.
