Glenswilly lad Sean Mc Ginley has reached a huge milestone in his relatively young athletics career at Olympian Youth & Athletic Club when he runs on Saturday 25th at the Schools International Crosscountry in Port Talbot, Wales for Ireland.
This competition gains Sean his first ever Ireland International vest.
The first year student at St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny has competed admirably within the schools Crosscountry events this season to gain the Ireland vest.
Sean’s Schools Crosscountry season started with the North West District Schools Championship where he finished 1st.
Sean’s next race was the Ulster Schools Championship where he finished up 9th overall.
Having finished in the top 12 in the Ulsters this got him through to the recent All Ireland Schools Championship @ Mallusk where he ran a fantastic race to finish up 10th overall allowing him to be selected for the Irish Schools International team.
What makes Sean’s achievements this year that has culminated in his selection on the Irish Schools team all the more remarkable is that he has only started competing in athletics only one and half years ago.
The club also wishes good luck to another few local Glenswilly Olympian Youth & Athletic Club athletes Conor Faul competing in the Under 18 Long Jump & 400m and Tiernan Boyle competing in the Under 19 1500m who have both got through to their first All-Ireland Indoor Track & Field Championships at Athlone IT also this weekend. Both Conor & Tiernan are competing on Sunday 26th.
