Portsalon Golf Club launches 2019 development draw

Portsalon Golf Club launched its 2019 Development Draw this week with an overall prize fund of over €50,000 on offer.

The golf club has partnered with Diver’s Hyundai on the winning prize, which is a 2020 Hyundai Tucson worth €32,500. The club will also donate 10 per cent of profits from the draw to the Donegal Hospice.

The Portsalon Golf Club Development Draw is the club’s first fundraiser in 30 years and hopes to raise much-needed funds to further develop the facilities at Portsalon, which is one of Donegal’s oldest links courses.

The funds raised will go towards new machinery for Portsalon Golf Club, while also upgrading existing buildings on the course including the clubhouse.

Pat O’Neill, Captain of Portsalon Golf Club, believes that the development of the course facilities is vital for the future of the club.

He said:  “It’s been over 30 years since we’ve held a fundraising initiative for Portsalon Golf Club and we’ve big plans for the future so we’re encouraging everyone to get behind the development draw and support us in our efforts.

The funds raised through this draw will help Portsalon Golf Club maintain its position as one of Donegal’s finest links courses, which in turn, will be a key driver for tourism and golf in the area, benefiting the wider community.

“The Irish Open drew the eyes of the world to Donegal last summer and showcased the very best of what the county has to offer.

“We’ve already seen an upsurge in golf tourism as a result, and there’s now a huge opportunity to develop the overall golf experience in the county.

“However, in order to do this, we need further investment in our facilities to ensure the club is on a par with the best links courses in Ireland and around the world.

“Portsalon has previously hosted national golfing events such as the Irish Ladies Amateur Close Championship and this investment will help us attract more high-profile competition events, helping us bring visitors to the area, boost jobs and inspire the next generation of young golfers in Donegal.”

Adding to this, Allan Bucknell of Donegal Hospice said: “We’re delighted that the club has chosen the Donegal Hospice as their charity partner for the 2019 draw.

“The hospice relies heavily on fundraising initiatives like this, so that we can continue to help and support families in their time of need.

“We’d like to thank the Portsalon Golf Club committee and would encourage everyone to get behind the draw and support it.”

Portsalon Golf Club is currently ranked in the top 25 courses in Ireland by Golf Digest and continues to progress under the guidance of Links Superintendent, Johnny Shields and his team.

Tickets for the Portsalon Golf Club Development Draw cost €50 each and are available from club members and at the clubhouse bar and office.

Organisers are encouraging any local businesses and retailers who would like to sell tickets through their outlets to contact club manager, Daragh Lyons on +353 74 91 59459.

There is also the opportunity to purchase tickets online whether you are at home or abroad via www.portsalongolfclub.ie.

There will be a €1,000 interim draw on Captain’s Night (Saturday 27th July) for anyone who has purchased a ticket before that date.
