Donegal man charged with rape sent to Central Criminal Court

A DONEGAL man has been forward to the Central Criminal Court for trial charged with rape.

The 22-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Letterkenny District Court and did not speak during a short hearing.

Gardaí said the accused made no response when the charge was put to him.

The alleged incident happened in Donegal in 2018.

The DPP has consented to the man being tried on indictment.

The man, who is currently on bail, will be sent forward to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Judge Paul Kelly assigned legal aid to solicitor Patsy Gallagher and granted two legal counsels.

A publication order is in place in order to protect the identity of the victim in the case.
