A BOOK of evidence has been served on a man charged with raping a woman in Donegal.

The 52-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Buncrana District Court.

The man is charged with one count of rape and 25 counts of sexual assault.

The accused, who has surrendered his passport, did not speak during the brief hearing.

The DPP has consented to the man being forwarded to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Judge Paul Kelly assigned legal aid to solicitor Rory O’Brien and granted two legal counsels.

A publication order is in place in order to protect the identity of the victim.
