AT JUST 26 years of age, Shane McGinty is one of the youngest managers in the game – and today he led Kildrum Tigers to Brian McCormick Cup glory.
McGinty, who plays for Irish League Premier Division side Dungannon Swifts, saw his side defeat Cappry Rovers 1-0 with captain William Lynch scoring the only goal of the game at The Diamond Park.
“I’m down as the manager, but I’m one of the boys,” McGinty told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub afterwards.
“My brothers, my family, all my mates play here. I’m absolutely buzzing and trying to hold back here. It means a lot.
“It was a cracking Cup tie; a great game and a great advertisement for the Donegal League. At the end of the season, this is the one you look forward to.”
The goal, midway through the second half, saw Lynch beat Cappry goalkeeper Joe Boyle to get on the end of a diagonal ball from Kevin McHugh and steer home.
McGinty said: “It was a great spot and a bit of class by Kevin to see that pass. It was pure want that got William there. it was 70-30 against him and he put it away very well. I’m delighted for William. He worked so hard all season.”
