Man charged with having child porn on computer at LYIT

A Letterkenny man has been charged with possession of child pornography at a computer at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

Oliver Ferris appeared at Buncrana District Court today charged with a number of offences.

Detective Garda Darren Carter told the court he met and arrested Ferris by arrangement.

The 25-year-old of Foxhills, Carnamuggagh, Letterkenny made no reply when charged.

He was charged that on March 14th, 2018 at Letterkenny Institute of Technology he had 9 video files containing child pornography on a hard drive.

He was also charged that on April 15th, 2019 at Foxhills, Carnamuggagh, Letterkenny he had 84 images of child pornography and 7 video files on three different devices.

Both charges were brought under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act of 1998.

The court was told that Gardai had no objection to bail but it was under a number of conditions.

They include that Ferris surrender his passport, sign on twice a week at Letterkenny Garda station, that he stay away from any witnesses and that he provide a mobile phone number.

The case was adjourned until May 24th next to hear directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
