A total of 867 fines have been issued to date by Gardaí to people in breach of Covid-19 restrictions across County Donegal.

That’s an increase of 26 on last week’s figures.

Nationwide, close to 21,277 fines have been issued by gardaí for people in breach of restrictions, with more than 14,800 of these issued for non-essential travel.

Nearly 4,000 fines have been issued to date to people attending or organising house parties and gatherings.

An Garda Síochána said it will be continuing nationwide checkpoints and high visibility patrols across the country this weekend in support of public health regulations.

However, Gardai continue to find large groups meeting in house parties, social and outdoor gatherings, in breach of regulations. These actions continue to put everybody’s health and the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic at risk.

Speaking today, Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security, Anne Marie McMahon said: “Thanks to the hard work and sacrifice of so many, all the COVID-19 indicators are going in the right direction. However, as society starts to open up again, we can’t afford to be complacent.”
