July 28, 2021

A BOOK of evidence has been served on a Donegal man charged with an alleged assault causing harm to a child.

The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

The man is charged with assault causing harm to a named person, a relative, on October 2, 2020 at an address in east Donegal.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to the accused being forward to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The man appeared in court, but did not speak during the brief hearing before Judge Deirdre Gearty.

Judge Gearty administered the alibi warning.

Legal aid was granted to solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian and one counsel assigned.

The man cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the child, under Section 252 of the Children Act, 2001.
