Shock and sadness have spread through the West Donegal Gaeltacht community over the past day following the tragic death of a much-loved local man.

George Tracey of Crolly, was the victim of a work-related accident in Manchester on Tuesday night.

The 57-year-old grandfather suffered fatal injuries when he was unloading materials from a lorry while working for well-known haulier Martin Boyle Transport. A full investigation is underway into the accident.

News of the tragedy has brought immense grief to the Dungloe, Rosses and Maghery area, and to the trucking community.

Local GAA club Naomh Muire Íochtar Na Rosann paid tribute to Mr Tracey today and expressed deepest sympathy to his partner Sheila Duffy, his family Michael, Sinead, Laura, Katie, Georgie and Ellie and the extended Tracey Family.

“The Tracey / Duffy /Boyle familes are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time,” said a statement from the Club.

As a mark of respect, a Christmas event at Teach Cha Dungloe has been cancelled this weekend.
