January 3, 2023

Well-known Letterkenny man Kieran Dillon has been appointed Donegal’s new State Solicitor.

The popular solicitor takes over from fellow solicitor Ciaran Liddy who was recently appointed a District Court Judge.

Mr Dillon, 57, is a well-known face in the courts of Donegal for many years.

He is a partner in the Letterkenny legal firm, Quinn Dillon.

State Solicitors are solicitors in private practice who are employed on a contract basis to act on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Outside the Dublin area, 32 local State Solicitors provide a solicitor service for the Director in Circuit Courts and some District Court matters.

Tributes were paid to Mr Dillon at Letterkenny District Court today during his first official court appearance in his new role.

Among those who congratulated him on his appointment was Judge Éiteáin Cunningham as well as senior solicitor Kieran O’Gorman and Garda Sergeant Jim Collins on his opening day as State Solicitor.

Mr Dillon, a member of the well-known Dillon family who formerly ran Dillon’s Supermarket on Letterkenny’s Main Street, he is a very popular figure with his colleagues on the legal benches.

He is a married man with one grown-up daughter.
