Irish peacekeeper Shane Kearney is no longer critical and his condition is now described as stable, according to the Defence Forces.
The 23-year-old trooper from Cork sustained serious head injuries after he and his comrades were attacked in the coastal Lebanese village of Al-Aqbiya in December. Donegal soldier, Private Seán Rooney, was fatally injured in the ambush and later repatriated to Ireland. He was buried in Newtowncunningham in the days before Christmas.
Tpr Kearney was medically evacuated last month to Beaumont Hospital for treatment.
“He is responding very well to treatment and medical staff are satisfied with his continued and steady progress, a spokesperson for the Defence Forces said.
Trooper Kearney’s family have also issued a message of thanks to everyone for the support that they continue to receive.
