Woman dies after being struck by train in Sligo

A woman has died and another woman has been seriously injured after being struck by a train in Sligo.

The tragic incident occurred at 4pm this afternoon at Knocks Park, Ballisadare and involved the 15.05 Sligo to Connolly train.

One female pedestrian aged in her 40s, was fatally injured, Gardaí have confirmed.

A second female, aged in her 20s, has been removed from the scene to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.

Approximately 100 people were on board the train at the time of the collision. No passengers were injured.

Forensic Collision Investigators are en route to the scene and the coroner has been notified.
