Walkers and climbers are being asked not to climb Donegal’s most iconic mountain as the next phase of development work on Errigal Mountain begins.
The next phase of ‘The Sustainable Access and Recreation Project on Errigal’ begins on Tuesday 20th June and will run until mid-September 2023.
The development includes a path up the mountain, some of which is already complete and proving hugely popular with visitors.
During this new stage of development, a helicopter lifting operation will be needed for some of the work.
This work will last for three days from July 5th until 7th.
A spokesperson for the project said “A helicopter lifting operation is scheduled to start on 5th July and last for 3 days, depending on weather, particularly wind and visibility.
“There will be traffic management in operation on the R251 Regional Road for the duration of the helicopter lifting operation.
“We would request that climbers do not to climb the mountain during the phase of the helicopter lift from July 5th – 7th for safety reasons.”
It has also been revealed that parking at the site will be busy.
The contractor will occupy most of the car park with a pedestrian route through it for hikers (or around it) leading to the mountain from 20th June 2023 until mid-September 2023
Walkers and climbers are advised to keep an eye on the Errigal mountain Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100080403798747 and website www.errigalmountain.com for updates.
