A body has been recovered at Slieve League following a week-long investigation into an alleged assault.
The discovery was made in the water near the cliffs at Bunglass.
Gardaí, with the assistance of the Coast Guard recovered the remains this morning. The body has since been removed from the scene and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital. The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem will take place in due course.
Donegal Daily has learned that the discovery was made overnight following a week long search for a “missing person’ in the area.
It followed reports that a man had been seriously assaulted on Saturday night/Sunday morning last.
Two people were arrested following the reports on Monday morning last.
However, the man in his 30s and the woman in her 20s were released without charge on Tuesday night last.
A massive search of the Slieve League and Teelin area had been ongoing since Monday last but was scaled back on Thursday evening.
Entrance to the area, normally busy with tourists, had been blocked to the public by Gardai from Monday until Thursday last while the search was ongoing.
As well as Gardai, the Irish Coast Guard including the Rescue 118 helicopter and the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team took part in the search.
The Rescue 118 and the Irish Coast Guard were back in the area late last night as part of a new search.
