Moville’s Geraldine Mullan is expected to address Greencastle’s biggest Darkness Into Light walk to date.
This year, Greencastle proudly becomes an official venue for the DIL initiative for the first time.
In the early hours of the morning, just before the break of dawn at 4:15 am, Geraldine will speak to walkers on what hope means and how important it is to hold on to it during the darkest times.
Geraldine has been a beacon of hope, faith and kindness since suffering the tragic loss of her family in 2020.
It is almost four years since Geraldine’s husband John Mullan (49), and their beloved children Tomás (14) and Amelia (6) lost their lives following a tragic car accident.
‘Every day we must seek a little bit of hope’, is a message shared by Geraldine in recent years.
“Hope, a small word of just four letters but yet so powerful and a word I hold onto dearly. Every day I look for a little bit of hope. For me, losing everything left me bereft, fragile and broken but I made a promise to my beloved John, Tomás and Amelia the day I laid them to rest that I’d never lose hope,” Geraldine previously said.
The Darkness Into Light Greencastle organisers are honoured to have Geraldine speaking at their event.
The local gathering has grown in popularity through the efforts of Gemma McClenaghan.
In 2020, amidst the turmoil of the pandemic, Gemma organized the first socially-distanced walk for Pieta in Greencastle.
In its inaugural year, the walk raised around €1,000 for Pieta North West in Letterkenny.
Year after year, the walk saw an increase in both participation and funds raised.
This year marks a significant milestone for Gemma and the Darkness Into Light walk in Greencastle, as her application to make Greencastle an official venue for the event was accepted.
“I am expecting the biggest crowd to date and sincerely hope people come out to support the event. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be served in the primary school in Greencastle. All welcome,” Gemma said.
There is registration in Moville Community College’s Upper Building from 1 to 2pm, today (Friday 10th). Special student rate of €5.
Everyone is welcome to join the group as they leave from Scoil Cholmcille Greencastle at 4.15am this Saturday 11th May.
