Fr Eamonn Kelly has revealed that he’s bidding adieu to his beloved beard.
The Raphoe Parish Priest hasn’t shaved his own face since before Donegal won their first All-Ireland title in September 1992.
He has finally decided to part with his iconic look for a cause close to his heart.
There was also some persuasion from family and friends!
Fr Kelly will brave the shave on Saturday 7 October, shortly after he celebrates his 61st birthday. He may be a little rusty with the razor after all those years, so Fr Kelly has given the task to some trusted friends.
The challenge will be in aid of Marys Meals Ireland, an important charity of which Fr Kelly is a long-time volunteer and member of the board of directors.
In the hearts of Fr Kelly and his friends are the children waiting to receive a meal each day with Mary’s Meals.
“So putting it all together you are invited to help out and to witness the beard being removed on Saturday 7 October at the Diamond, Raphoe at 2pm,” Fr Kelly said.
“It will be a time of fun and laughter, a time of joy and thrill, a time of helping feed more children. During this time Mary’s Meals hope to feed 200 children for a full school year with Mary’s Meals. To feed one child costs €22 per school year.”
