Buncrana has been crowned as Donegal’s tidiest town for the second year running.
The Buncrana Tidy Towns Initiative were the big winners at the SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards today, where a series of awards were handed out to hard-working local volunteers.
Buncrana not only won the county title by a point, but they were also the regional winners of the large town Local Authority Pollinator Award, winning €1,000. Buncrana scored 369 from the Tidy Towns judges.
It was also a proud day for Letterkenny Tidy Towns who won a Gold Medal again this year and came 2nd place (highly commended) in Donegal. Letterkenny’s overall score has grown by 13 points to 368.
County third went to Carraig Airt. Bronze medals went to Malin, Glenties, Raphoe, Moville and Carraig Airt.
The town with the biggest percentage improvement on the previous year’s score was Muff, who took the Endeavour Award.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today announced Abbeyleix, Co. Laois as Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2023.
Over 600 TidyTowns volunteers were present at the SuperValu TidyTowns awards ceremony at Croke Park in Dublin with the event live-streamed to thousands more online.
This year, 887 towns were competing for the prestigious awards demonstrating the continuing huge national interest in the SuperValu TidyTowns competition which has been running since 1958.
