Donegal Gardaí have warned of an uptick in refund and other retail scams in the run up to Christmas, after an incident in Letterkenny last week.
Gardaí say that last Wednesday a woman attempted a refund scam in a store in Letterkenny, by placing three items from the shelves into a bag, and then presenting them to the cashier asking for a refund.
When the cashier asked for the manager of the store to get involved, the woman left the scene without paying for the items.
After this incident, Gardaí are urging business owners to be vigilant, and to report instances of these types of refund scams or distraction thefts to them in the run up to the busy Christmas period.
