There is sadness across the county following the sudden death of one of Donegal’s most respected former Gardai, Jim Gallagher.
Jim, who was originally from Corr Point in Leitirmacaward, rose to the rank of Superintendent.
He was stationed in Letterkenny for many years where he will be remembered as a fair and good-natured man.
He lived in Calhame in Letterkenny and was a devoted husband to his wife Kathleen and father to his children.
He served the force for 40 years having join An Garda Siochana in 1969 before returning in March, 2010.
After retiring, Jim became involved in volunteering.
Jim’s remains will repose at the Eternal Light Chapel of Rest, Mountain Top, Letterkenny from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Thursday concluding with removal to St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny for reception prayers at 5pm.
He will repose overnight for 11am Requiem Mass on Friday. Mass will be followed by burial in Cill Bhríde Cemetery, Leitirmacaward.

Predeceased by his brothers Michael and Eamonn, Mr. Gallagher will be deeply missed by his loving wife Kathleen, daughters Jimelle and Ciara, sons Michael and James, son-in-law Shaun, grand-daughter Leah, grandson Noah, sisters Maureen, Anna and Dolores.
