A 13-year-old boy has died after a man wielding a sword attacked members of the public and police officers in London.
Four people are in hospital after the incident in Hainault, northeast London, this morning at around 7am.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested.
The young boy was treated at the scene but died a short time later in hospital.
Two other members of the public are in hospital with injuries believed to be not life-threatening.
Two police officers received “significant” but not life-threatening injuries and will undergo surgery.
Police say the incident does not appear to be linked to any act of terrorism.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “This is a shocking incident. My thoughts are with those affected and their families. I’d like to thank the emergency services for their ongoing response, and pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery shown by police on the scene. Such violence has no place on our streets.”
