‘Multiple garda units’ were required yesterday to apprehend a driver who failed to stop at a checkpoint in east Donegal.
Gardai were carrying out vehicle checks in Killygordon in the afternoon when the motorist refused to stop when signalled to do so.
“They were stopped a short time later with assistance from multiple garda units,” a garda spokesperson said.
“The driver was arrested for road traffic offences and has been held in custody to appear in court.”
Another driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving at the same checkpoint after they tested positive for cannabis.
Meanwhile, a driver was arrested at a separate checkpoint yesterday morning in the Letterkenny area after they failed a roadside breath test. This driver had been socialising the previous night. They now face a disqualification of three months and a €200 fine.
“The Bank Holiday Weekend has ended but our checkpoints continue,” the spokesperson added.
“Do not be an irresponsible driver or you could end up being responsible for someone else’s death. It really is that simple.”
