Irish supergroup Clannad are to finally get the Freedom of their native Donegal.
The band, led by singer Moya Brennan, will be given the award next week at a special reception at Donegal’s County House in Lifford.
The band have been together since 1970 when they formed in their native Gaoth Dobhair.
Since then they have gone on to sell millions of albums around the globe.
Renowned singer Enya was a member of the group before she left in 1982 to pursue a hugely-successful solo career.
It was that same year that the band gained the attention of fans around the world following the release of their stunning single ‘Theme from Harry’s Game.’
A number of original founding members including brothers Padráig and Noel Duggan have sadly passed away.
The band, who famously recorded the single ‘In A Lifetime’ with U2 singer Bono, have won numerous awards down through the years.
These include a Grammy, a BAFTA, a Billboard Music Award and an Ivor Novello Award.
They have also recorded songs in an impressive six different languages.
The band will receive the Freedom of Donegal on Friday next, May 17th.
