It once employed 3,500 people at its Irish operation.

But when it downsized its Donegal and Derry bases in 2009 and moved most of its operations to Morocco, many thought that was the end for Fruit of the Loom.

But the good news is that the company has now posted a 62% increase in its after-tax profits.

The company now employs 24 people at its Buncrana base where its operation focuses on sourcing finished products for sale.

The Irish arm of the company owns a clothes manufacturing facility in Vietnam while Fruit of the Loom’s parent company has been controlled by Berkshire Hathaway.

The firm has certainly cut its cost of late with latest accounts showing that the increase in profits come despite revenue falling by nearly €30 million.
