The Green Party has confirmed Dr Nuala Carr as their Donegal candidate for the General Election.

Nuala Carr is a native of Letterkenny and has just completed a PhD through Queen’s University Belfast.

Nuala is working at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) on an EU funded research project to harmonise the skills and training needs for the offshore wind energy industry.

With a background in ecology and her current studies in the social sciences, she is very aware of the urgent need to address the many social and environmental issues required to promote sustainable practices in local communities throughout Donegal.

Carr said: “It would be a privilege to represent the people of Donegal and work together towards a more resilient future”.

Michael White, Chairperson of the Donegal Green party, said: “We are incredibly lucky to have a candidate of the calibre of Nuala to run for the Greens in Donegal. We are also delighted that Nuala’s candidacy supports our party’s national drive for gender balance among our candidates and representatives.”

“Irish Greenhouse Gas emissions peaked in 2023 for the first time, due to the Green Party being in government. There are also record numbers of people retrofitting houses in Donegal, a huge uptake in the plastic bottle return scheme, and a big increase in the number of Local Link bus services around the county. All these are due to the Green Party. It’s important that people vote for Nuala in this election so we can continue to deliver results and fight climate change. Only the Green Party has this focus”.
