Donegal County Council, Donegal Road Safety Working Group and Finn Harps Football Club have once again teamed up to promote road safety with the Primary School Road Safety Art Competition.

Primary school students across Donegal are invited to showcase their creativeness and help raise awareness about road safety through taking part in the competition.

This exciting initiative challenges students to create artwork centred on this year’s theme, “Our Roads, Our Safety”, promoting the importance of staying safe on the roads by safe walking, safe cycling, safe travelling.

The competition encourages young artists to express their ideas on road safety through art while learning how to stay safe on the roads, protecting themselves and others. There are fantastic individual prizes to be won, as well as a special prize for the school of the overall winner, making this a competition that benefits both students and their school.

At the launch of the competition at St Baithin’s National School St. Johnston, Pamela Smullen, Donegal County Council stated “We are excited to launch the Primary School Art Competition, giving students across the county the chance to use their creativity to help spread the important message about road safety. This competition aims to raise awareness and encourage the development of good road safety habits at an early age. Donegal County Council and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group appreciate the continued involvement and efforts of Finn Harps Academy to help promote greater awareness of staying safe on the roads.”

The winning entry will be displayed by Finn Harps Football Club in their grounds and online platforms, and by Kernans in their shops and the class of the overall winning entry will receive training equipment and a coaching session with Finn Harps coaches.

Kevin McHugh, Head of Finn Harps Academy said, “Finn Harps Academy are delighted to continue our partnership with Donegal County Council and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group in our Annual Road Safety Art Competition. This competition, with the message “Our Roads, Our Safety” gives children the opportunity to actively get involved and to increase their awareness of the importance of road safety in their daily lives. We wish to acknowledge the help and assistance of teachers who work enthusiastically to ensure children of all ages are fully aware of the dangers on our roads. We are again looking forward to a huge response from Primary Schools throughout Donegal”

All entries should be sent to: Road Safety Art Competition, Donegal County Council, The Diamond, Lifford, Co. Donegal. F93 FK22. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, 5th March 2025. For more information see www.donegalcoco.ie
