A professional mixed martial artist from Letterkenny has appeared in court on a drugs charge.
Jordan Furey, who has won two pro fights, was before Letterkenny District Court.
The 25-year-old, of Glenwood Park in Letterkenny, was charged in connection with an incident on November 26, 2023.
A section 3 assault charge against Furey was struck out after the court was told that compensation was paid to the victim. That related to an incident at Voodoo Venue, Letterkenny.
Following his arrest, Furey was conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station, where he was searched and €40 worth of cannabis was found.
Solicitor for Furey, Mr Kieran O’Gorman, said his client was pleading guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled drug, contrary to section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977.
Mr O’Gorman told the court that his client has no previous convictions.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham told Mr O’Gorman that Furey could avoid a conviction if he paid €150 to Donegal Hospice by July. A default order of a conviction and a €200 fine was set down by the Judge,
The incident in question occurred just weeks after Furey defeated Rogger Lopez in October, 2023.
Furey was 10-2 as an amateur mixed martial artist and turned professional in 2023.
The lightweight fighter trained out of the famed Straight Blast Gym (SBG), the home of UFC star Conor McGregor, for stoppage wins over Gabriel Marcel da Silva and Lopez at Clan Wars events in Belfast.
He has not fought since defeating Lopez in the second round of their bout at Clan Wars 48.
