A third driver has been caught drug driving in County Donegal in the space of 24 hours, as the Donegal Rally weekend gets underway.
Two drivers were arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of drug driving after testing positive for cocaine at a Garda checkpoint on the outskirts of Letterkenny.
The third drug driving arrest in a matter of hours happened after Gardaí pulled over a driver who was observed driving dangerously in Letterkenny yesterday evening.
Gardaí say that the driver tested positive for the presence of cocaine and cannabis after a roadside drug test, and was subsequently arrested.
Their car was also seized by Gardaí under Section 109(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
Gardaí are reminding anyone in town for the rally this weekend of the consequences of having their car seized.
“Under this legislation, in order to get your vehicle back, you must apply to the Judge of the District Court,” they said following the arrest.
“We are enforcing a ZERO tolerance policy in relation to the dangerous use of vehicles. Should you observe a vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner, please try to get the registration number and report the incident to us immediately.”
Meanwhile, another driver was arrested yesterday evening after being caught driving 174kph in a 100kph zone in Newtowncunningham.
