What a weekend for the 4 Juvenile athletes from Cranford AC who travelled to Tullamore on Sunday to compete in Day 3 of the National Track and Field Championships.
This is the last Track and Field competition of the season and this is what these athletes train and aim for all year.
Aoife Giles was up first in the Girls U14 shot put. Aoife got off to a good start and made it into the final 8, and as the competition went on she improved her distance. Aoife’s best throw was 11.84m and this earned her an All Ireland Bronze medal so well done Aoife.
Oisin Kelly (pictured, top) was up next and after winning a Gold last weekend in the 800m the big question was could Oisin do the double and win Gold in the 1500m one week later. This race is new to Oisin this season with 3 3/4 laps of the 400m track Oisin got into a good position and stayed on the shoulder of the leading pack and making a move coming off the bend with 100m to go there was no stopping him winning by over 2 seconds. This is a great achievement by this young lad with two All Ireland Titles in 7 Days.
Eoghan Moore was up next in the U16 Boys Javelin. Eoghan threw very well getting into the last 8 earning himself 3 more throws where Eoghan threw 39.39m finishing up in a very respectable 4th place, just missing out on a medal.
Eoin Kelly was up next in the 400m hurdles. This is a new event for Eoin this season and his first Nationals and what a way to finish up the day for Cranford AC, Eoin had a great race coming home in 3rd place and earned himself a Bronze medal.
This is the end of a very successful season for Cranford AC. The Club now takes a well deserved rest for a few weeks before we start back for the Cross Country season in Cranford and any new members would be most welcome.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the coaches for all their dedication and hard work on getting the best out of the young athletes and giving up their time to train them in all types of weather and for the parents who take the children to training each week.
We would also like to thank Frank Casey for the use of the track in Downings, for which we are all so grateful and lucky to have such a good track. We would also like to thank our main sponsor Creeslough Supermarket and finally all the local media for the great coverage they give us throughout the year. It is much appreciated.
