GLENSWILLY’S Donegal Championship heroes have a chance to show they are good enough for a crack at the Ulster crown, star forward Michael Murphy says.
The Donegal captain hopes Glenswilly will rise to the occasion when they face Cavan Gaels in the Ulster Club Championship this Sunday.
The Cavan side – 12 times their county champions – are favourites in the preliminary round clash – but the presence of Murphy has everyone talking.
He scored 1-7 in Glenswilly’s historic county final win over St Michael’s.
“Never in a million years did we think we would be standing on the same pitch as Cavan Gaels in an Ulster Championship game,” said Murphy.
“In the past teams like St Eunan’s, Glenties and Kilcar dominated the Donegal championship, but it is much more open now and we are delighted to be on the list of winners.
“Donegal football seems to be getting stronger. Last year Glenties were just a couple of kicks away from beating Crossmaglen and winning an Ulster Championship and it would have been richly deserved.
“But Cavan Gaels are one of the superpowers of the Ulster, along with the likes of Cross and St Gall’s, to name but a few.”
Match is at Breffni Park in Cavan this Sunday with a throw-in of 3.30pm.
