Gary Burch, of Kennington Close, Templeogue, south Dublin, had been detained by gardai for questioning after Mr Maloney was punched and killed on Sunday morning.
Garda Sergeant Sean McAvinchey told Judge Victor Blake at Dublin District Court that Mr Burch was charged at 12.49pm today.
“I arrested the accused at Kevin St station for the purpose of charge following directions from the DPP,” Gda-Sgt McAvinchey said.
He said he was present when the charge was read over to Mr Burch. “In reply to charge after caution, Gary Burch made no reply,” Gda-Sgt McAvinchey also said.
He was remanded in custody until Monday.
Eugene will be buried in Fahan beside his mother after a funeral in Dublin.
Although he was born in England of Irish parents, his mum lived there until she passed away five years ago.
His brother Sean still lives there.
