Donegal County Council is facing an estimated bill of more than €100,000 for the recent spate of gorse fires.
The fire service have attended up to 40 fires in the past couple of weeks due to the current dry spell.
As well as the payment for hundreds of hours of service by fire personnel, fuel and equipment costs have added to the overall cost.
There were no reported fires last night but a gorse fire warning remains in operation.
West Donegal has been the worst-hit area with fires in Kincasslagh, Loughanure, Crolly, Gaoth Dobhair and Dungloe in recent days.
Dozens of acres of land has been destroyed as fire crews battled around the clock to keep buildings and homes from catching fire.
In one of the most serious incidents, an elderly couple had a lucky escape when an oil tank close to their home in Annagry exploded.
The side of the house was slightly damaged but nobody was hurt.
Wildlife has also been badly-hit with birds and other wildlife perishing.
Firemen did manage to rescue a number of stranded donkeys which had been trapped by surrounding flames.
