Donegal Action for Cancer Care response to Minister Heather Humprey’s speech at the MacGill Summer School.
Spokeswoman Betty Holmes issues this statement on behalf of the group.
“Your speech looks good in print Minister and while we note you cover many headings our primary interest is the health care of the sick people of Donegal.
“We do agree that “Too often these conversations take place in the cosy confines of Dublin 2.
”We believe there is a serious lack of understanding of the geographical position of Donegal indeed some in Dublin think Donegal is part of the 6 counties because we are part of Northern Ireland. Take note of our DACC map.
No railway no motorway!
We do agree “Donegal is a case in point of both the challenges and merits of investing in rural Ireland” especially Donegal & Health Care should be an important part of this. A population who are sick, receiving treatments at many levels, unwell or unable to access treatments cannot make a valuable contribution to a workforce.
Minister your heading People.
“For it is the people of this small country which make it great. And it is the people of rural Ireland which make it a place worth fighting for”.
“I do not believe it is feasible to simply promote the development of cities and large urban areas, while rural areas are left to decline.” We do agree Minister but again no matter what assurances we are given & with respect focus is on Donegal with the Mc Gill Summer School what will you Minister & the other high profile Ministers & Politician’s do when you are back in Dublin?
You tell us Minister to “Forget about the politicians – what about the people?”
“Minister with respect a lot of the public services you referred to are already a major issue…Policy makers have already made those decisions!!
“Sure again take a look at our DACC map and we know the politician’s have forgot about the people of Donegal!”
