Gardai are hunting a lone raider who attempted to hold-up Kilmacrennan Post Office this morning.
The post mistress at the An Post outlet was left terrified after the man burst into the shop just after 9.30am.
He quickly used an implement to smash the glass panel at the post office.
It is understood the man then panicked and left the post office on foot without getting any cash.
The post mistress was unhurt but very distressed by the incident which only lasted a few seconds.
Garda Superintendent David Kelly told Donegal Daily that this was a very serious incident but thankfully nobody was hurt.
He issued a description of the suspect who is 6 feet tall and was heavy set.
He was wearing a bulky blue jacket with a white stripe across it and blue baggy tracksuit bottoms with a light blue stripe down the side as well as dark trainers.
The attacker was wearing a black balaclava and gloves.
Supt Kelly said “This was a very serious incident and we would appeal to anybody who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed anything to come forward. They can contact Milford Garda station with information on 0749153060.
Gardai say they they are interested in tracing a car which they believe could be connected to the attempted robbery.
It is a metallic blue car, possibly a Peugeot 206 which is missing its petrol camp and also the hubcap of its front passenger side. It also has a yellow license plate.
