Gardai accused of delaying Arlene Arkinson inquest

September 8, 2016

Sinn Féin politician Pat Doherty said it is disgraceful that An Garda Síochána has delayed the inquest into the murder of teenager Arlene Arkinson by failing to produce documents or nominate witnesses.

Mr Doherty said the Arkinson family has been waiting over 20 years on this inquest and it’s shocking that proceedings have yet again been delayed.

The Donegal-based politician said Gardai are simply adding to the anguish of the Arkinson family.

“It is unacceptable that An Garda Síochána are further adding to the anguish of the Arkinson family by delaying the inquest into Arlene’s death yet again by withholding information from the coroner.

“It is important the inquest proceeds with full disclosure so the family can begin to get to the truth about Arlene’s disappearance and murder.

“The Gardaí need to come back to the court as soon as possible with the relevant information so that the inquest can be completed.”
